Broken promises of standby power: a cautionary tale

Make a promise. Keep a promise. It’s how Jim Rambousek lives his life and what he expected when buying a standby power generator. Unfortunately, his was an experience of broken promises. While he thought he was getting a system from a “trustworthy” salesman, what he got was an expensive broken promise.

The power supply to your home can go out for many reasons. Sometimes all it takes is a windy day. Rambousek decided it was time for a generator after Hurricane Rita hit in 2009. A standby power system, he felt, promised the assurance of power and would add value to his home.

His search of companies led him to a sales rep who seemed dependable enough. Rambousek says the man “graciously agreed” to a 50 percent deposit on a standby generator system for his home.

Shortly thereafter Rambousek received a large concrete slab and a breaker box. But, no generator. After calling the salesman’s company Rambousek got some bad news. Despite what he’d heard the salesman promise, all he’d received was all that was coming.

“I always thought I was a good judge of people,” said Rambousek, who says he later learned that the salesman also scammed three other people. “It was a huge blow for me, almost like a punch to the gut.”

But, he remained determined to get a reliable standby power system. That’s when he was introduced to Generator Power Systems.

“I started talking to some people who had already put in systems. One of the people had a card from (Generator Power Systems), “ Rambousek recalled. “They were extremely, extremely personable, and Jim Fish was clearly knowledgeable.”

WIthin a few days of calling Generator Power Systems Rambousek’s system was installed, tested, and working perfectly. “They even taught me how to work it, just in case.” he added.

Mr Rambousek has an important reason for wanting to know he can keep the promise of power no matter what. “I’m a grandfather now,” Rambousek says. “I just wanted to know that I could be ready in the future.

Thanks to Generator Power Systems, Jim Rambousek will now be able to keep his promise of a safer home for his grandchildren.
