Unhappy start leads to three happy endings

No one wishes for a hurricane, but one of Generator Power Systems’ customers almost does. Dr. A.H. Redmon says he “feels a sense of security knowing his standby power generator is there and ready to go.”  The story of how that generator got there has more twists and turns than a spy novel.

Soon after moving into their home 30 years ago, the Redmons experienced a power outage. Company was coming and there was no power. Even though the lights came back on with moments to spare, that outage was an omen of more to come.

Storms blow, power fails

When Carla and Alicia blew through, they were without power for ten days each time. Ike was the last straw: ten days without power cost them everything in the fridge and transformed their pool into a green lagoon.

After years of procrastination, Dr. Redmon contracted for a standby generator with another company, but quickly learned all was not as it appeared. There were “many errors, misstatements and confusion, Redmon says.

No answers, no power

The proposed location of the standby generator system violated city code and, “they even sent two men to form the concrete base without a permit.” Worst of all, he “could never get a person on the phone to correct the errors.”

Enough was enough. After several calls, Dr. Redmon tracked down the owner on his cell phone and canceled the contract. He then reached out to Nancy at Generator Power Systems.

“She patiently discussed the various options with me,” Redmon recalls. “I was impressed with her knowledge about generators.”

GPS to the rescue

Ultimately, instead of a smaller system that would only partially power his home, Dr. Redmon chose a 45Kw Generac standby generator capable of powering both of his two 200 amp services.

As a result of his experience, two of his neighbors hired Generator Power Systems to correct problems with their generator systems—including a code violation discovered when Dr. Redmon’s system was inspected by the city.

“It’s not uncommon for us to find these kinds of problems,” says Yvonne Fish. “Over the last two years, we’ve corrected 453 installation problems, sometimes totally reinstalling systems.”

“I have recommended (Generator Power Systems) to anyone who has asked me about my experience,” says Dr. Redmon. “I…feel a sense of security knowing that generator is there, ready to go.”
